This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks across our removals operations, including packing, loading, transport and delivery of goods.

Policy Statement and Objectives

Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our work. We will integrate health and safety considerations into all aspects of our planning and service delivery, and we will review this policy regularly to ensure it remains effective and appropriate to our operations.

We will comply with all relevant health and safety laws and recognised industry standards applicable to the moving and removals sector. Where it is reasonably practicable, we will adopt best practice measures that go beyond the minimum legal requirements to protect our workforce and customers.

Management Responsibilities

Senior management at Removals Brompton holds overall responsibility for ensuring that effective health and safety arrangements are in place. Management will provide visible leadership, allocate appropriate resources and actively promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.

Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy on a day-to-day basis. Their responsibilities include identifying and assessing risks, putting in place suitable control measures, ensuring that staff receive necessary training and information, and monitoring work practices to confirm that safe systems of work are being followed.

Employee Responsibilities

All employees and workers engaged by Removals Brompton share responsibility for maintaining a safe workplace. Every individual must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.

Employees must:

Follow all health and safety procedures, method statements and instructions provided by the company. Use vehicles, equipment, tools and personal protective equipment correctly and not interfere with or misuse anything provided for safety purposes. Report hazards, defects, accidents, near-misses and unsafe practices to their supervisor without delay. Cooperate with any training, monitoring, investigation or health surveillance programmes arranged by the company.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Removals Brompton will identify hazards and assess risks associated with our activities, including manual handling, working in and around vehicles, use of lifting equipment, handling fragile or heavy items, and working in customers homes and premises.

Written risk assessments and safe working procedures will be prepared, implemented and communicated to relevant staff. These procedures may cover site access, vehicle loading and unloading, route planning, working at height when necessary, and the handling of awkward, bulky or valuable items.

Risk assessments will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in work processes, equipment or locations.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

Manual handling is a core element of removals work and presents a significant risk of injury if not managed correctly. Removals Brompton will provide training to ensure staff are competent in safe lifting techniques, team lifting methods and the use of handling aids such as trolleys, ramps and lifting straps.

We will, wherever possible, plan jobs to minimise the need for excessive manual handling. Loads will be assessed for weight, size and stability prior to movement, and appropriate staffing levels and equipment will be allocated to each job.

All tools, vehicles and handling equipment will be maintained in a safe condition and regularly inspected. Defective equipment must not be used and should be reported immediately.

Vehicle and Road Safety

The safe operation of company vehicles is essential for protecting staff, customers and other road users. Only authorised and competent drivers may operate our vehicles. Drivers must hold valid licences and follow all road traffic laws and company driving policies.

Vehicles will be subject to routine maintenance and safety checks. Loads must be properly secured to prevent movement during transit and vehicles must not be overloaded. Drivers are required to conduct pre-use inspections, report faults, and follow route and parking guidance designed to reduce risks to people and property.

Customer Premises and Public Safety

Our staff frequently work in and around customers homes, offices and shared spaces. We will take all reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors and members of the public from risks associated with our operations.

Where appropriate, work areas will be clearly identified, trip hazards reduced, and access routes kept as clear as reasonably possible. Particular care will be taken when moving large or heavy items through confined spaces or common areas such as corridors and stairways.

Training, Information and Supervision

Removals Brompton will provide appropriate health and safety training to all employees, taking into account their role, experience and responsibilities. Training may include induction safety briefings, manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle safety, emergency procedures and job-specific methods of work.

Information and instructions will be communicated clearly and in a way that employees can understand. Supervisors will monitor performance, provide guidance and correct unsafe behaviour promptly.

Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, incidents, injuries and near-misses must be reported through the company reporting process. This information will be used to investigate root causes, implement corrective actions and improve safety performance.

Emergency procedures, including arrangements for first aid, fire safety and evacuation, will be established for workplaces and vehicles as appropriate. Employees will be informed of these procedures and their roles in the event of an emergency.

Consultation and Continuous Improvement

Removals Brompton values the input of employees in improving health and safety. Where practical, we will consult workers on significant safety matters, changes to working methods and the introduction of new equipment.
